mom, illustrator, hobbyist
I'm delighted that you're reading this. Considering there are over a billion pages out there I do hope it's not a random event, but indeed an overlap of interest that has brought you here. So without further ado, here's a quick round-up of everything about me that's relevant in the context of Marilcha Illustrations. I'm trained in fine arts (illustration, painting, graphic design), teaching, child development, and psychology. I've worked for 12+ years (2007-date) as a professional illustrator, and 3+ years (2003-2006) as a school teacher. I've illustrated several children's books - 10+ published and many more in the works, created and uploaded over ten thousand high quality vectors on various stock sites, and successfully completed hundreds of freelance illustration gigs. My professional toolbox is comprised of Adobe Create Suite components - Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign for the most part. I currently live in Kerala, India, with “the husband” and sons aged 5 and 12.
I've always been passionate about art. However, it wasn't until after the arrival of my firstborn in 2007 that stars lined up for the launch of my career as an illustrator. Prior to that, training in education and psychology, followed by a brief stint teaching 4th graders served as a useful distraction. Who'd have known that fond memories of doting 9 years olds would continue to inspire my work as an artist, especially while working on children's books. But such is life. Hindsight's 20/20. As Steve Jobs once said, “You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever."
During the past 10+ years as an illustrator I have worked on a range of projects, met several interesting people, and found great joy in just being a professional artist - a dream I nurtured since childhood. I'm always looking to reach out to those who share common interests, espcially topics covered in my blog so we can compare notes and exchange ideas. Adding a new Photoshop brush to my repository, or learning an Illustrator trick can make my day. On that note, art / illustration work that you'd like me to do also qualifies as a common interest. In any case, even if it's just a compelling urge to say hi, please feel free to drop me a line or connect on Facebook, Twitter, DeviantArt, Instagram, Google Plus or LinkedIn.

Marilyn, Was asked to use her artistic talents and vision to create a few designs for me. Marilyn, was outstanding to work with...she was very patient and extremely understanding of what I was looking for. Marilyn, is a brilliant artist, and I would recommend her to anyone looking for someone to complete their project.
